March 13-15 2008
The Program convened a major conference "Commemorative Conference on Alberico Gentili: A Just Empire? Rome ’s Legal Legacy and the Justification of War and Empire in International Law". An edited book on this topic is in preparation. The program has engaged classicist Professor David Lupher to translate Alberico Gentili's De Armis Romanis [1599] into English; edited and with an introduction by Benedict Kingsbury and Benjamin Straumann, this volume will be published by Oxford University Press.

Fall 2005/2006
The Political Theory of Alberico Gentili (1552-1608) and its Relation to the Subsequent Works of Hugo Grotius was the subject of workshops at NYU in Fall 2005 and Fall 2006 with guest lecturer Diego Panizza (University of Padua).   Comments by IILJ Visiting Fellow Benjamin Straumann.
