The Brexit Deal: A Less Perfect Union or a More Flexible Compact? Assessing the Draft EU UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement

In late 2020, the United Kingdom and the European Union reached an historic accord that outlines new rules for the parties’ relationship following the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. On 14 January 2021, the Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law & Justice and the Institute for International Law and Justice’s MegaReg project cohosted a virtual roundtable on: The Brexit Deal: A Less Perfect Union or a More Flexible Compact? Assessing the Draft EU UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. Experts discussed issues raised by the new EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement and its policy implications. Participants included Gráinne de Búrca, Joseph Weiler, Meredith Crowley, Robert Howse, Imelda Maher, Daniel Sarmiento, Jesse Scott, and MegaReg’s own Thomas Streinz.
Book Launch for Megaregulation Contested in NYC

On 19 November 2019, the IILJ and its MegaReg project held the New York launch of MegaRegulation Contested: Global Economic Ordering After TPP, its newest publication with Oxford University Press. Robert O. Keohane (Professor of International Affairs, Princeton University) and Katharina Pistor (Edwin B. Parker Professor of Comparative Law and Director, Center on Global Legal Transformation at Columbia Law School) joined editors Benedict Kingsbury, David Malone, Richard Stewart, and Thomas Streinz for a conversation about megaregulation and the future of global economic governance.
GRIPS Forum: Megaregulation Contested

The IILJ launched Megaregulation Contested: Global Economic Ordering After TPP (OUP, 2019) at an event in Tokyp co-hosted by the The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). Opening remarks were given by GRIPS Vice-President Kiyotaka Yokomichi. Rector David Malone (UNU), Prof. Kenichi Kawasaki (GRIPS), Prof. Christine Davis (Harvard) and Prof. Benedict Kingsbury (NYU) engaged in a panel discussion about the issues raised by the book.
