The Institute of International Law and Justice at NYU School of Law, with the cooperation of the Office of Legal Affairs of the UN, organized a conference in honor of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations to explore the impact of that organization on international law.
After an introduction by Professor José E. Alvarez and welcoming remarks by Miguel de Serpa Soares, UN Under-Secretary General for Legal Affairs, there were two keynote addresses by Beth Simmons, Clarence Dillon Professor of International Affairs at Harvard University, on the UN Charter and International Order and by Jeremy Waldron, University Professor at NYU School of Law, on the UN Charter and the Rule of Law, followed by a discussion with the audience.
