Rachel Steinig graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2021, with a B.A. in Political Science, a concentration in International Relations, and minors in Latin American and Latinx Studies, Hispanic Studies, and Modern Middle Eastern Studies. Their senior honors thesis focused on the use of bilateral and regional agreements to accommodate climate-induced displacement. Post graduation, they spent two years working in human rights in Mexico. They worked as a Project Coordinator with Al Otro Lado in Tijuana, as a Human Rights Accompanier with Peace Brigades International in Chihuahua, and they volunteered at refugee shelters in both Chihuahua and Tabasco. Rachel is specifically interested in working on cases of enforced disappearance, Indigenous peoples’ collective rights, forced displacement and migration, civic space and human rights defenders, and judicial independence. They plan on a career in international human rights law in Latin America, working in solidarity with affected communities and through the framework of legal empowerment.
